The motion picture industry is threatening to destroy culture & tradition

  In general meaning, culture – it is everything that has ever been created by human. It includes many things such as paintings, sculpture, literature, music, etc. The newest and the most discussed part of culture - is the motion picture industry. It has the greatest influence on people’s culture and traditions since the end of the 19^th century.

   At first, movies help to show culture and tradition brighter and more available for the audience. It combines all aspects of cultural experience with the work of special technologies. As the result of this combination, we receive the reflection of the director’s mind. The director tried to give the audience his or her vision of the situation. When we watch a film, we can see not only a picture with sounds, but we are able to follow the way of director’s thinking. Secondly, Talented movies can make people change their world view. The brightest example, in my view, are movies of one of the most famous Russian directors – Aleksey Balabanov. “Aleksei Balabanov loved our country so much and especially he loved our people. So, he was never afraid to talk about their disadvantages. Sometimes, he did it so creepily that people were bursting with terror and rage. Finally, movies can make people be more smart by showing them documentary films that have information about the world.

   Unfortunately, not all of the movies can be the part of culture and tradition. Sometimes it becomes a murder weapon. In most cases, mass movies are made with the goal to make money, not to inspire. In the last few years, there is a trend that is directed to remake classic movies, especially soviet comedies such as « Kidnapping, Caucasian Style» or «Gentlemen of Fortune». Fortunately, these ones do not get good ratings. Also, motion picture industry is powerful means of manipulation. It gives people prepared patterns of behavior and dictates how to look, wear and think. Furthermore, films exaggerate the reality and because if this the audience cannot understand why the real world is so different from the beautiful and light one.

  All in all, despite the disadvantages of motion picture industry I am absolutely sure that there are huge amount of good movies that can be a good example of our culture and tradition.
