Summary

In the article “Hair raising! The return of the perm” Leah Harper writes about the comeback of the popular in the 80’s kind of hairstyle – curls. The author writes that eairlier (around 30 years ago) wavy and curly hair were associated with unprofessionalism – “belief that often comes with racist connotations”. But now, fashion has changed and so people can see a number of curly-haired models on the catwalks of Gucci or Celine or also there. Nevertheless, the author says that some people are still scarred to make “waves” because of using the chemical perm that could hurt their own hair. Leah Harper claims that now there is nothing to worry about because nowadays there are lot of different safe techniques to make hair curly without damaging it. Such methods vary but most of them use sodium thioglycolate that are suitable for longer hair. Modern perm is gives a choice whether people want their hair curly, straight or wavy. The price vary from 75 to 390$ which is too much for ordinary people. Also, the writer offers to readers her own technique of “pseudo perms” that could help to make waves at home and safe money.
